Karen is a government drone enthusiast! She has worked for the FAA for over 26 years conducting applied research in support of the agency’s mission to maintain safe air travel in the United States. For the last nine years she has focused her professional passion on the integration of UAS into the National Airspace System. As a thought leader at the FAA’s William J. Hughes Technical Center in New Jersey, she drives technical focus for studies conducted by multi-disciplinary teams that support the development of UAS operational and certification requirements, regulatory standards, and policies for safe and effective UAS operations. Using a variety of methods including modeling, virtual simulations, demonstrations, flight tests, and engineering studies, Karen works closely with key UAS industry stakeholders to collaboratively address some of the crucial challenges facing the advancement of unmanned systems.
